National Lottery Funding for Dementia Training

Published by Alison Watson-Shields on

We are thrilled to share the news that Young At Heart ULO CIC has been awarded funding through the National Lottery Awards for All programme. This generous grant—made possible thanks to National Lottery players—will enable us to expand and enhance our dementia training programme over the next two years.

Our project, Under The Umbrella Dementia Training, has been designed in response to the real needs of carers and professionals in our community. Through a mix of in-person and online sessions, we’ll be offering practical, hands-on training that equips attendees with the knowledge and confidence to support people living with dementia more effectively and compassionately.

Having previously delivered dementia training on a smaller scale, we’ve seen first-hand the positive impact it can have—helping carers feel more confident, reducing isolation, and improving the quality of care provided. With this new funding, we can now broaden our offer to include additional courses, explore new ways of delivering content, and reach even more people—especially those supporting loved ones from a distance.

This programme has been shaped by the voices of local carers and professionals, and we remain committed to involving our community throughout the project. Whether it’s through feedback surveys or conversations during training, your insights will help us ensure the sessions remain relevant and meaningful.

We are especially grateful to The National Lottery Community Fund for recognising the importance of dementia awareness and education. And we extend our heartfelt thanks to each and every person who plays the National Lottery—your support makes this work possible.

We look forward to sharing more updates as the training programme launches this summer.

Thank you for believing in our vision.
