This week at Young At Heart ULO we had an administrative-themed session, which involved supporting all attendees in all three groups (including the In Our Shoes carers support groups) in completing new membership forms.
The Stockton group, at St John’s Church, started the session with a lengthy discussion of the previous weeks trip to Eden Camp in Malton, North Yorkshire. Much was said about the eventful and scenic bus journey provided by M&D Travel Coach Hire, who took us along some very bumpy farm tracks and back via the North York Moors National Park.
In Billingham, the group met at The Half Moon Inn – a J.D.Wetherspoons public house located in Billingham’s town centre. This was met with delight by a few and apprehension by others. Although it was nice to meet in a different space in order to allow the group to meet, it was particularly difficult to hold conversations and explain the tasks to the whole group.
In Thornaby, the group quickly worked through the membership forms and spent the remainder of the afternoon playing dominoes, drinking tea/coffee, eating biscuits and singing.
In the spirit of the World Cup, we have put together a lucky dip sweepstake. Teams are £1 each with those whose teams reach the semi-finals all winning a cash prize. Rory, one of our volunteers has taken charge of selling the teams at the sessions and we are well on our way to filling our second team board. All profits go back to Young At Heart ULO.
Next week, Stockton and Thornaby will be creating the bunting for our Cupcake Day event, which takes place on July 11th – see invitation below. The Billingham group are meeting for a picnic in the park and some outdoor games at John Whitehead Park – making the most of the summer weather while it is here!
