This week we worked on writing ‘tanka’ poems; a 31 syllable, 5 line poem that doesn’t rhyme and is structured as follows:
Line 1: 5 syllables
Line 2: 7 syllables
Line 3: 5 syllables
Line 4: 7 syllables
Line 5: 7 syllables
In Stockton, the group took to the task really well. Each table worked together to write a variety of poems on a wide range of topics including football, homes for sale, pets and the group.
In Billingham, the group worked on their own individual poems about loneliness, memory loss and Christmas gifts, as well as working together on a poem about medication!
In Thornaby, the group struggled with the idea of a tanka and became confused by the name, so we worked together to write poems describing the day, where we were, love and time.
The poems are currently being typed up and printed for the writers to have their own copy and will be shared on the group Facebook page and this blog once they are complete.
Join us next week when we will be creating visual masterpieces using paint-by-numbers.
