Today at Young At Heart the theme of our session was ‘food’. In preparation for the session I prepared a trench cake and some fresh, home made white bread for the group to enjoy with butter and strawberry jam. I also provided a selection of sweets to pass around.

We started off with a general discussion about our favourite foods and how our taste in food might have changed as we aged. We also chatted about ‘baking day’, ready meals and the obesity problem.

After our discussion we had a short food themed quiz which included questions that asked for the name of particular foods, general questions that were open to personal preference and food-related sayings such as If someone drops the ball they have got butter fingers and you can’t make an omelette without breaking a few eggs.

Unfortunately the stimulating discussion meant that we didn’t have enough time to eat the baked goods that had been prepared but we did have a great time making each other’s mouth water with our descriptions of our favourite foods.

The theme for next week is ‘current affairs’ so it is important to spend some time watching the news.
